Fogo Island is a large offshore island in Newfoundland and Labrador, set in the North Atlantic and reached by ferry from Farewell on Newfoundland’s northeast coast. Its landscape is defined by rocky headlands, small coves, rolling hills, exposed coastal trails, and scattered fishing communities. Eleven communities occupy the island, including Fogo, Joe Batt’s Arm, and Tilting, each with its own character and relationship to the sea.

Brasília may be a World Heritage Site, but it is only of interest to town planning and architecture students, and those keen to witness the folly of man on a metropolitan scale. It must have looked good on paper, and still looks good in photos, but in the flesh, forget it. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, urban planner Lucio Costa, and landscape architect Burle Marx, the city was built in an incredible three years between 1957 and 1960.

Jim Corbett National Park lies in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand and forms the core of the wider Corbett Tiger Reserve. It is recognized as India’s first national park and is closely associated with the conservation of the Bengal tiger. The landscape combines sal forests, riverine grasslands, wooded hills, and wetlands, creating habitats for a wide range of wildlife. Carriacou is the largest of Grenada’s sister islands and part of the Grenadines, lying north of mainland Grenada between the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The island has a relatively dry climate and a landscape of low hills, rocky headlands, coral reefs, beaches, and small valleys used for farming. Hillsborough is the main settlement, while Windward, L’Esterre, and Tyrell Bay are among the island’s other communities.

Fatu Hiva, the southernmost of the Marquesas Islands, is a destination that feels like stepping back in time to a world untouched by modernity. This remote island is known for its breathtaking landscapes, where lush, verdant mountains rise dramatically from the deep blue sea.
