Lincoln, Nebraska, blends college-town spirit with prairie roots, offering a travel experience that’s both laid-back and surprising. As the state capital, Lincoln is home to the stunning Nebraska State Capitol building, an architectural landmark with a 400-foot tower topped by a bronze sower casting seeds over the land. Visitors can tour the building and ride to the 14th floor observation deck for sweeping views of the city and surrounding plains.

Located among the calcareous plateaus covered with Mideterranean scrub and alluvial deposites from the coastal plains, Nîmes appears as a city with various faces. First and foremost, the city is known as the 'French Roma', because of its famous history and its well conserved antique monuments. Nîmes is also, for many 'aficionados', the 'French Madrid'.

The next boom city in China. It's already been pegged. Xiamen, China, is the closest point on the mainland to Taiwan, and there is a great deal of investment flowing into the city. Brasília may be a World Heritage Site, but it is only of interest to town planning and architecture students, and those keen to witness the folly of man on a metropolitan scale. It must have looked good on paper, and still looks good in photos, but in the flesh, forget it. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, urban planner Lucio Costa, and landscape architect Burle Marx, the city was built in an incredible three years between 1957 and 1960.

Wichita combines a substantial aviation industry with museums, historic districts, riverfront parks, and a diverse urban population, while the surrounding landscape remains largely agricultural.
