Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York, set beside Mirror Lake and close to the larger Lake Placid. Surrounded by forested mountains, the community has a compact centre with shops, restaurants, galleries, and lodging along Main Street. The area is part of the Adirondack Park, a vast protected landscape of forests, lakes, rivers, and mountains.

Fogo Island is a large offshore island in Newfoundland and Labrador, set in the North Atlantic and reached by ferry from Farewell on Newfoundland’s northeast coast. Its landscape is defined by rocky headlands, small coves, rolling hills, exposed coastal trails, and scattered fishing communities. Eleven communities occupy the island, including Fogo, Joe Batt’s Arm, and Tilting, each with its own character and relationship to the sea.

Jekyll Island, one of Georgia’s Golden Isles, is a barrier island with a story that stretches from ancient Indigenous cultures to Gilded Age millionaires. Today, it’s a state park carefully preserved for public enjoyment, offering a quiet blend of coastal landscapes, historic landmarks, and outdoor activities. Formerly Mocamedes, this port in southwest Angola has become an important industrial center since a rail line was built in 1905 connecting it with the interior of Angola. In 1967 when iron ore was discovered in Dongo, an additional line was laid and the port was enlarged.
