León is the industrial, commercial, and transportation center for a rich agricultural region and is a shoe-manufacturing center. Founded in 1576, León was a Spanish colonial administrative center.

Progreso, a coastal city in the state of Yucatán, offers travelers a relaxed atmosphere with strong ties to the sea. Founded in 1871 as a port to support trade in the region, Progreso now welcomes both cargo ships and cruise liners to its shores. Its most defining feature is the Progreso Pier, one of the longest in the world, stretching over 6 kilometers into the Gulf of Mexico.

Karpathos is marked by the peculiar Karpathian houses, built of carved stone, full of embroidery and characteristic interior decorations. From Pigadia you may visit Kyra Panagia, a picturesque bay with a marvelous beach and a monastery of the same name. A little further, on the northern promontory of Karpathos, lies the Diafani village; on the nearby little island of Saria we see Palatia, with ruins of the ancient city of Nisyros.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in southwestern Uganda, is one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural treasures.
