St Kilda is a remote volcanic archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, far west of Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. The group consists of Hirta, Dun, Soay, and Boreray, along with numerous sea stacks and smaller formations. Hirta is the largest island and contains the remains of the former settlement around Village Bay. No permanent civilian population lives on St Kilda today, although conservation workers, researchers, and Ministry of Defence personnel occupy Hirta at various times.
Called "La Metropolis del Sol Naciente" (The City that guards the Sun of the Caribbean), Fajardo was founded in 1772 as Santiago de Fajardo. The site covers a compact area where footpaths pass between limestone outcrops, tree roots, bridges, and natural rock formations. Its unusual landscape has made it a distinctive destination within the Forest of Dean.
Caminha sits at Portugal’s northern edge, where the Minho River meets the Atlantic and marks the border with Spain. Its history is closely tied to defense and trade, visible in remnants of medieval walls and a compact historic center that once guarded the river mouth.
