Padre Island is a long barrier island along the Texas Gulf Coast, extending beside the Gulf of Mexico from the Corpus Christi area toward the southern tip of Texas. Much of the island consists of broad beaches, coastal dunes, grasslands, tidal flats, and shallow lagoons. The northern section is closely associated with Corpus Christi, while South Padre Island is a developed resort community farther south.

King Island was discovered in 1798, and was a preferred breeding area for sea elephants and seals. Around the island are many shipwrecks, caused by the rough seas of the Bass Strait.

Desroches Island, a serene oasis in the Seychelles, offers an unparalleled escape into tropical luxury. There exhibits tell how sculptor Gutzon Borglum carved away twice the rock needed to construct Egypt's Great Sphinx (which isn't even as tall as Washington's nose).
