Bear Mountain State Park occupies a rugged section of the Hudson Highlands on the western bank of the Hudson River, about 45 miles north of New York City. The park covers roughly 5,000 acres of forests, mountain slopes, lakes, and riverfront, making it one of the best-known public recreation areas in the Hudson Valley. Its landscape supports hiking, biking, fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking, and winter activities.
Bonifacio is located at the southernmost tip of the island of Corsica. The town towers above the "Bouches de Bonifacio" the strait between Corsica and Sardinia, above islands and reefs. Bonifacio has survived a unique history, founded in 833, and somehow has defied time and events.
Laos, a landlocked country in Southeast Asia, is known for its lush landscapes, winding rivers, and rich Buddhist culture. The Mekong River flows along much of the country’s western border, offering both vital transportation routes and scenic vistas. Rolling hills, dense forests, and limestone karsts provide opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and exploring remote villages.
King Island was discovered in 1798, and was a preferred breeding area for sea elephants and seals. Around the island are many shipwrecks, caused by the rough seas of the Bass Strait.
While an earthquake in 1972 left few buildings intact in downtown Managua, new areas are building up. Managua has excellent restaurants, nice hotels, and is a good base for day tours into the countryside.
