Jeju, often written as Cheju in older English sources, is South Korea’s largest island and lies in the Korea Strait south of the Korean Peninsula. The island is known for its volcanic landscapes, coastal cliffs, lava tubes, and the prominent peak of Hallasan, which rises at its center.
Charlestown is the historic capital of Nevis, located on the island’s west coast beside the Caribbean Sea. Iskanderkul is a mountain lake in western Tajikistan, set in the Fann Mountains of the Sughd Region. The lake occupies a deep basin surrounded by steep, rocky slopes and high peaks, with sparse vegetation covering much of the surrounding terrain. Its waters are fed by mountain streams and drain through the Iskanderdarya River. The lake is named after Alexander the Great, who is associated with several legends connected to the area.
Guimarães is a historic city in northern Portugal closely associated with the origins of the Portuguese nation. Known as the “Cradle of Portugal,” it developed around a medieval settlement whose historic center remains exceptionally well preserved. Narrow streets, granite buildings, arcaded squares, and traditional houses give the old town a distinctive architectural character.
