Mohács is a Danube-side town in southern Hungary, close to the country’s border with Croatia. Its riverside setting has shaped local life, trade, agriculture, and recreation, while the town’s streets contain a mixture of traditional houses and distinctive public buildings. Ely, Minnesota, sits on the edge of the Superior National Forest in the state’s Northwoods, where boreal forest, rocky terrain, and interconnected lakes define the landscape. The community is best known as a major gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, which contains more than one million acres of protected forest and waterways along the Canadian border. Ely itself has a compact downtown with independent shops, galleries, restaurants, and outfitters serving wilderness travelers.
Aci Trezza is a small fishing village on Sicily’s eastern coast, just north of Catania, overlooking the Ionian Sea along the Riviera dei Ciclopi. Its waterfront is defined by dark basalt rocks, small fishing boats, and the Faraglioni dei Ciclopi, a group of sea stacks rising offshore. The rocks were formed by ancient volcanic activity connected with the geological history of Mount Etna.
Thanks to the implementation of a coastal highway in the 1980s and the government's subsequent infrastructure investments, Natal is now the largest city in Brazil's Rio Grande do Norte. Visitors are drawn to its beautiful beaches, white sand dunes and a diverse cultural experience. The city also lays claim to having some of the cleanest air on the continent as well as the world's largest cashew tree, the Cajueiro de Pirangi, which produces roughly 70,000 nuts annually.
Lake Toba is another of the island's spectacular sights - a remarkable volcanic crater set in the middle of northern Sumatra, 176km from Medan. The lake is huge (the largest in South-East Asia), occupying the caldera of a giant volcano that collapsed on itself after a massive eruption some 100,000 years ago. In comparison, Krakatau's 1883 effort was little more than a belch. The lake is surrounded by steep mountains, ridges and sandy, pine-sheltered beaches.
