Italy’s port city of Brindisi, tucked along the Adriatic coast in the Puglia region, has been a gateway to the East for over two thousand years. Once the Roman Empire’s main departure point for the Via Appia, the road to Greece and beyond, Brindisi still bears traces of its ancient past, from Roman columns to remnants of old harbors that once welcomed traders, pilgrims, and soldiers.

Blanketed from end to end in luxuriant greenery and brightly colored flowers, this enchanted island is scalloped with beautiful beaches. There are sandy coves beside coral reefs, and alabaster cresents below tiny trails, leading to pretty waterfalls or plantation ruins. Best of all is the Main Ridge Rain Forest Trail, where jungle-thick ferns and giant bamboo grasses flourish under a canopy of foliage 60-feet high.

Located in northwest England, Birmingham has a tremendous history as an industrial city. Close to coal and iron ore supplies, it was here that Bouton and Watt harnessed steam power to run machinery. The Museum of Science and Industry resides here and provides an excellent look at England's history.

Alabama surprises many first-time visitors with its rich cultural depth and variety of landscapes. From the white-sand beaches of Gulf Shores to the Appalachian foothills in the north, the state offers a wide range of experiences. Music runs deep in Alabama’s veins. Muscle Shoals, a small town along the Tennessee River, is legendary among musicians. Its Fame Recording Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio hosted Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
