Glencoe lies in the western Highlands of Scotland, where a long, steep-sided valley cuts through mountains shaped by ancient volcanic activity and glaciation.

Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument stretches across southern Utah as a vast landscape of layered cliffs, winding canyons, and open desert plateaus. The land shifts in color from pale cream to deep red, depending on the angle of the sun, revealing rock layers that look like pages stacked over time. Much of the area feels remote, with long dirt roads like Hole-in-the-Rock Road leading travelers deep into quiet terrain where rock formations rise suddenly from flat ground.

Bakkagerði is a small village in Borgarfjörður Eystri on Iceland’s remote east coast, surrounded by steep mountains, narrow valleys, and the North Atlantic. The village serves as the main settlement and service center for the fjord, with a small harbor and colorful houses scattered beneath the surrounding peaks. Its isolated location gives Bakkagerði a strong connection to the landscape and to traditional rural life.

Colca Canyon, located in southern Peru’s Arequipa region, is one of the deepest canyons in the world, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in some areas. What makes it stand out even more is how human settlements have coexisted with the landscape for centuries. Along its walls, pre-Inca agricultural terraces still hold crops like corn and quinoa. One of the main draws of the canyon is the opportunity to see Andean condors in flight.

Kalsoy is a narrow, mountainous island in the northern Faroe Islands, known for its steep eastern cliffs, deep valleys, and small settlements along the western side. The island is reached by ferry from Klaksvík, and its road passes through several short tunnels as it connects the villages of Húsar, Mikladalur, and Trøllanes. Much of Kalsoy remains open pasture and rugged mountain terrain, with the sea visible from almost every part of the island.
