It is a main sea port for industry and farming, as well as a popular port of call, especially around the Christmas Holidays. Originally named "Te Maru - The Place of Shelter", this port town was built as a whaling station until immigrants from England arrived in 1859, and the town was finally declared a city in 1948.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore stretches along more than 40 miles of Lake Superior shoreline in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, between Munising and Grand Marais. The shoreline takes its name from the bands of mineral-stained sandstone visible along the cliffs, where iron, copper, and other minerals create natural patterns in the rock.

Medan is the capital of north Sumatra and the third largest city in Indonesia. It is a huge, sprawling city and a popular entry/exit point for travellers. The solid Dutch buildings of the affluent older suburbs inspire images of bloated bureaucrats and burghers from the colonial era, while jerry-built lean-tos house the bulk of its population.
