Olympic National Park occupies Washington State’s remote northwest corner, shaped by isolation and ecological range rather than a single defining feature.
Liège, located along the Meuse River in eastern Belgium, is a city shaped by industry, resilience, and an independent spirit that dates back centuries. Once the capital of a powerful prince-bishopric, Liège has always done things its own way and is lived-in and layered with working neighborhoods, student cafés, and markets that tell the city’s real story. Every Sunday, locals gather at La Batte, one of the oldest and largest outdoor markets in Belgium.
Kansas offers a diverse range of experiences that capture the essence of the American Midwest. Visitors can explore the state's rich cultural heritage at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka, where a guided tour reveals the building's intricate architecture and historical significance.
Cachi is a small mountain town in Argentina’s Salta Province, set in the northern Calchaquí Valleys at more than 2,000 meters above sea level. Its historic center has cobbled streets, raised sidewalks, adobe buildings, and a central square surrounded by traditional architecture. The town sits beneath the peaks of the Nevado de Cachi and among stands of tall cardon cacti, creating a distinctive highland landscape.
Medan (pop 1.5 million) is the capital of north Sumatra and the third largest city in Indonesia. It is a huge, sprawling city and a popular entry/exit point for travellers. The solid Dutch buildings of the affluent older suburbs inspire images of bloated bureaucrats and burghers from the colonial era, while jerry-built lean-tos house the bulk of its population.
The city's two finest buildings are the Istana Maimoon (Maimoun Palace) and the magnificent black-domed Mesjid Raya. There are some fine examples of European architecture along Jalan Sukarno-Hatta, such as Bank Indonesia and the High Court. There are a number of museums, including the Museum of North Sumatra, which has excellent coverage
of the region's culture and history, and the weaponry-and-warfare-influenced Bukit Barisan Military Museum. Cultural performances can be seen at Taman Budaya.
Much of the budget accommodation is close to the city centre. Jalan Semarang, a small street between Jalan Pandu and Jalan Bandung, has great food stalls offering Indonesian and Chinese meals late into the night.
