La Rochelle sits on France’s Atlantic coast, shaped by centuries of maritime trade, independence, and outward-looking ambition. Once a powerful port with strong Protestant roots, the city developed a reputation for autonomy that still colors its identity. Its old harbor, guarded by medieval towers, reflects a history tied to navigation, commerce, and connections far beyond western France.
A very clean and European city south of Sao Paulo, it was the center for Polish, German, Italian and Russian immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Tucked along the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, Benin offers a vibrant blend of traditions, rich history, and colorful daily life that surprises and delights travelers at every turn. The country is the birthplace of Vodun (commonly known as Voodoo), a spiritual tradition still practiced widely and celebrated each January 10th with processions, drums, and dance in the city of Ouidah.
One of San Cristobal Island's most popular visitor sites is Cerro Brujo, with its expansive white sand beach and a lagoon that locals once used as a salt mine but now offers excellent snorkeling opportunities. Another must-see is Kicker Rock, a fascinating rock formation that looks like a boot from one angle (hence its English name) and like a sleeping lion from another (thus its Spanish name, Roca León Dormido).
Philae Temple Complex sits on an island in the Nile near Aswan, where calm water and granite hills create a setting that feels carefully placed in the river. The temple buildings rise from the island like carved stone reflections of the cliffs around them, and reaching the site requires a short boat ride across still waters. This approach is part of the experience, as visitors leave the shore behind and glide toward an island that seems built for slow discovery.
