Wuxi
Wuxi is an industrial and resort city located along the Da Yunha (Grand Canal). Settled some 3,000 years ago, it has long been known for its silk production. Today, Wuxi is still known for its silk industry, which has been revitalized since 1949, as well as for its high technology industries. It is also the center of a rich agricultural area.
Santa Cruz de la Sierra
Santa Cruz is in stark contrast to La Paz. Climate is tropical and altitude is only 1,250 feet. It is on the eastern lowland side of the Andes mountain range and one of the gateways to Bolivia's jungle area. Trinidad is the other. Much of Bolivia's natural resources, including agricultural products, are found in this area. Mount Everest
Rising along the border of Nepal and Tibet, Mount Everest stands as the highest point on Earth, reaching over 29,000 feet into the sky. Known locally as Sagarmatha, meaning “Peak of Heaven,” and Chomolungma, meaning “Goddess Mother of the World,” the mountain carries deep spiritual meaning for the communities that live in its shadow. Its summit sits in air so thin that oxygen levels are only a fraction of what travelers experience at sea level.
Brasília
Brasília may be a World Heritage Site, but it is only of interest to town planning and architecture students, and those keen to witness the folly of man on a metropolitan scale. It must have looked good on paper, and still looks good in photos, but in the flesh, forget it. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, urban planner Lucio Costa, and landscape architect Burle Marx, the city was built in an incredible three years between 1957 and 1960.
