The Brisbane Festival emerged from the Warana Festival, which had been celebrated since 1961 with a theme of "entertainment for the people, by the people." Over the years, the festival evolved, with Riverfestival being created in 1998 before being combined with Brisbane Festival in 2009 to create one of the largest annual international arts festivals in Australia. Today, the Brisbane Festival continues to showcase world-class performances and remains Brisbane's biggest cultural event, exemplifying the city's commitment to fostering the arts.
